What We Collect
TrashAlert collects minimal data to provide our service:
- Address lookups: When you search for an address, we process the query to return results. We do not log individual lookup queries.
- Schedule reports: If you report your pickup day, we store the address, collection day, recycling week, and ZIP code. We also store a one-way hash of your IP address (not the IP itself) to prevent spam.
- Email signups: If you sign up for reminders or the sensor waitlist, we store your email address and pickup preferences.
- Analytics: We use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-first analytics tool that does not use cookies, does not track individuals, and is GDPR compliant.
What We Don't Do
- We do not sell your data to anyone. Ever.
- We do not use cookies for tracking.
- We do not share your email with third parties.
- We do not store your IP address โ only a one-way hash for spam prevention.
- We do not serve ads.
Your Data
Schedule reports are public by design โ they help your neighbors find their pickup day. When you report a schedule, it becomes part of our community database.
Email addresses are used solely for the service you signed up for (reminders or waitlist notifications). You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in any email we send.
Data Storage
Data is stored in Supabase (PostgreSQL) hosted in the United States. The application is served via Vercel.
Not Affiliated
TrashAlert is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the City of San Diego or any municipal government. We use publicly available information and community-reported data.
