San Diego's Three-Bin System
Black Bin — Trash
Collected weekly, Mon-Fri
Everything that can't be recycled or composted. Bag or wrap loose material.
Green Bin — Organics
Collected weekly, Mon-Fri
Food scraps, yard waste, food-soiled paper. NO plastic bags — even “compostable” ones.
Blue Bin — Recycling
Collected every other week
Aluminum, glass, plastic, cardboard, paper. Items must be empty, clean, dry, and loose.
2026 Holiday Schedule
No collection on these days. Starting on the holiday, pickup shifts forward one day for the rest of that week.
